June Bug

Dear Blog,

Do you know how goofy my baby is? If you don't then see photos below.

I think it's possible I subconsciously facilitate this kind of behavior in her.

These were all taken about 2 months ago.

Clearly she doesn't dress herself yet so I'm the one who made her look like this but it wasn't deliberate. And she was so joyful and playful in it that it seemed as though she preferred to be dressed this way.

Have you ever seen such a cheeky profile? I love kissing those cheeks!

These pictures are just cute.

Now, if you want to see Juniper in action you must watch this video. But skip to 1:30. The beginning part she isn't doing much.

Anyway, that's it! I know I'm not much of a writer the post but that's not what's special about this now is it?

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock

"Television: chewing gum for the eyes" ~ Frank Lloyd Wright

Dear Blog,

So, I'm going to pretend that it hasn't been over one month since my last post (even though I just acknowledged it) and move right ahead. No looking back, no catching up (except for Valentine's Day), no feeling bad that I've slacked off with the blogging. Not that I have been feeling bad.

Well, we got a new television. I almost thought I would never see the day this would happen but thanks to our tax return we were able to replace the old, heavy box that I got rid of nearly a year ago. Even though we are watching a little bit of TV now, we got it primarily to watch movies. We started getting really sick of watching movies on the tiny laptop screen.

There might be one problem. Juni is really liking the tube. She's like me where she can sit for long extended periods of a time because she gets sucked in to anything that's on.

It's so cute though. Sitting in her little arm chair all comfy and cozy eating a snack. I think it's a nice treat (for both of us) and I don't feel shame for this eat-in-front-of-TV situation. Would you? You know what, don't answer that.

Point is we love it. I get to watch Oprah again!!!

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock

Deep Rich Tones

Dear Blog,

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed the last post. Heath is truly remarkable, isn't he?

But now, on a completely unrelated, polar topic I must share with you a song. It has been popping into my mind quite a lot this past year and it has been a source of peace as I learn a lot about myself, life, and love. It is a song so beautiful it makes me close my eyes and sway while it melts away my troubles. I hope you all will take the time to listen to it, for me.

Piano aside, the cello could very well be my favorite instrument. The tones it can make are so rich, both the high and the low, and they seep into your soul, especially in this Bach Prelude.

I really don't think life would be the same without music and I have realized I have not been listening to it like I used to. I mean really listening to it and doing nothing else but focusing on the melody, harmonies, and feelings (Am I the only one that does that?). I'm thinking that this is what I'll be doing during Juni's nap times from now on.

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock

All Things Chic: A Review

Dear Blog,

What a treat we have for you today!

I have many different blogs that I follow and quite a few of those blogs have some sort of focus on fashion. Which I love. Really I do.

Lately, Heath has also started keeping up with these blogs and has felt inspired. So inspired that his ensembles have really come to life! It takes a lot of skill, knowledge, and just plain fashion sense to look as amazing as Heath does and I'm going to share with you how to do just that. You better get out your note pad and pen.

First things first.

There's nothing as upsetting as having a great outfit but not having the awesome pics to showcase how great you look on your blog. One way to remedy this is try your best to be photogenic. The best way to do this, I find, is to be serious (like someone just took the last hotdog bun) or to act totally candid as if no one is near you with a camera. Works like a CHARM. Another way is to buy a disposable camera (none of that digital SLR crap) and be sure to utilize the flash. You'll see how much better my photos have turned out and you'll be wishing you were us.

The First Ensemble:

Quick Fashion tip #1: No matter how hard you try, you won't look good until you have fully embraced art, music, philosophy (my personal fav is existentialism), or anything abstract. Make sure you have embodied these desires in what you're wearing.

Quick Fashion tip #2: When traveling, pick up some indigenous jewelery. Puka shells have actually never gone out of style.

Quick Fashion tip #3: Fit is EVERYTHING, as you can clearly see, so don't be afraid to show some skin.

The timer was set perfectly on this shot.

Pants: BOSS $140
Shirt: Gravewear Goth Co. $55.50
Shoes: Diesel $135
Men's choker & Bracelet: Swap Meet $7
Hat: Some girl who sells stuff from her grandma's attic on Etsy $150

The Second Ensemble

Nice-casual is gaining in popularity. This look is perfect for that date you have been looking forward to all week. You're gonna make heads turn.

Quick Fashion tip #4: Show everyone your manly side by showing off your hairy chest...AND your hairy stomach.

Quick Fashion tip #5: Sure, it might be a moderate 70 degrees outside but don't you dare forget that scarf. It's the perfect accessory.

Quick Fashion tip #6: You can never go wrong with VIN-TAGE. You better make that trip to Savers ASAP!

Shirt: Bloomingdale's $160
Jeans: True Religion $202
Scarf: Nordy's $70
Shoes: Vintage designer shoes $275
Best of PS Record: Saver's $0.99

The Third Ensemble

He's all about looking classy.

Quick Fashion tip #7: Having a skilled tailor is a must. It seems like the Guyanese tailor who made this suit knew what he was doing and was making a statement; Invert the French pleats then taper and shorten the sleeves.

Quick Fashion tip #8: Borrow (steal) one of your grandma's hats. Or take it from someone else's grandma.

Amazing! Peruvian tie, Guyanese suit, and NCT polo. Someone knows how to look sharp.

Suit: Berbice Menswear $1,200 (Guyanese)
Shirt: National Comedy Theatre $90 (This is an exclusive shirt. Not just anybody can get one)
Tie: Peruvian Llama $75
Shoes: Vintage Designer Shoes $Let's face it, you just can't afford it
Hat: "Borrowed"

A big thanks to Heath for being so "GQ." He's fabulous, no?

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock

I STILL Wish I Lived "Back Then..."

Dear Blog,

When Heath and I got married, there was something he did not know about me yet. This thing makes him laugh and go a little crazy. He also realized I am happiest when embracing this... um...trait of mine.

To put it simply I am an old lady.

More than one person has told me I have an "old soul" and I sincerely take that as a compliment. One of those who gave me that description was always amazed that at my then age of 20 I knew so many old songs and music artists from the 60's, 70's, 80's, old standards and singers, not to mention classical and a little bit of that old jazz. And it is so great having a record player. There is something about the crackle that makes me nostalgic for a time in which I never lived.

As shown in my previous post, I have this affinity to 1920's hair styles. I wish I had finger waves in my hair every day, but my new 'do is a close second.

I know that I probably seem no different than the next girl. I mean, the "vintage trend" is very present. But, really, I love it. I love that I can get an old dress from a thrift store or a cute cloche hat and can be genuinely me and fashionable for a few dollars. Besides, I love that so many other women (and men) appreciate the qualities and charm of something old. And it's green. YAY!

The first year of our marriage I would always be home from school and work by the late afternoon and I would start cooking dinner for us so it would be ready when Heath got home (I was such a good wifey. Too bad I no longer hold this particular quality). Every night while cooking I would turn on the TV and watch one of my favorite shows since I was a child, Wheel of Fortune. Heath would walk in the door to me yelling at the screen, "HOME SWEET HOME LOAN! HOME SWEET HOME LOAN! Come on!!!"

The Charming Pat Sajak

"You're such an old lady!" Heath would say as he dropped his head back and scrunched his face. Another favorite since I was young, The Price Is Right. I still have a dream of being on one (or both) of these game shows.

Wish Bob Barker was still there.

I love love love board games and I love puzzles even more. So, I bought myself a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle for a little belated birthday treat the other day. I finished it in less than 24 hours because I was enjoying it so much. Tonight, Heath confessed to me, "You're just like Aunt Theresa. I married Aunt Theresa!!!"

I just can't imagine how old I will be when my body is old too. Maybe it will be like a Benjamin Button thing, though that may be worse. Can you imagine an 80 year old who likes 104.7 KISS FM? Also, I wonder if I was born 50 years earlier would I be interested in the current times or wish I lived in the 19th century? Does anyone else think of such things?

Food for (not much) thought...

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock

I Wish I Lived "Back Then..."

Dear Blog,

A couple weeks ago I did something that I have always wanted to do. It was a little daring but I'm glad I went through with it. I got a haircut!

But not just any haircut. I wanted a true blue 1920's page boy bob: blunt, to my cheek bones with bangs cut short. Of course, I want to show you what it looks like but discovered some time ago that I am not photogenic, ESPECIALLY when my hair is short. I promise you I look better in person.

I thought I'd pose a la Amélie

I normally don't take photos like this and at this angle. I probably should though because it was the only angle that I looked half decent in. I just feel silly posing like this, so don't make fun.

And speaking of hair...

Guess who can wear her hair in pigtails. That's right. Juni can! She looks all grown up!

And here is a funny moment I captured. She's either styling the monkey's hair or maybe it's a lice check. That's my (well-groomed) girl.

Anywho, ta-ta for now!

Love,
Emily Wilcock

Dear Blog,

It's been quite some time since my last blog post. I have had a lot on my mind with no room to think about blogging. But hopefully I will post something soon. Otherwise, I will see you later.

Sincerely,
Emily Wilcock
