Yes, And...

Dear Blog,

I did it. I really did it.

I participated in an improv show at the National Comedy Theatre (NCT). And it was AWESOME!

The one and only Dorian Lenz: improv extraordinaire

Why, you may ask, would I do something as "suicidal" as this? Well, there are a couple of answers to that question. 1) Heath is already a part of the NCT team, in case you didn't know, so he was my inspiration. 2) They offer workshops for anyone who wants to give it a go. 3) Improv looks like a blast! And the most important reason, 4) I get embarrassed of just about anything I say to another person and this was a way to get over my fears of saying something stupid. So, there you have it!

A photo montage of my wonderful, funny, talented teammates in action.

Sure, I still get my nervous laughs. Sure, I still get a little embarrassed. This fear still needs to be conquered, but I no longer get that heart pumping (negative), breath taking (also negative), chest pain inducing anxiety that I used to. What a relief!!! I would recommend this to ANYONE -shy or outgoing. You meet great people, feel more confident in your blunders, and have lots and lots of fun. Oh! And the best part is...you don't even have to be funny, which was great for me. Go figure!

Seriously though, you should check it out. In fact, their next Level 1 workshop starts on Tuesday, May 3. Check it out! You'll be glad you did.

Shamelessy Yours,
Emily Wilcock

  2. That is so great that you are always trying new things and that you wanted to conquer a fear this way - not easy!
I was going to ask if you're going to do it again too. Are ya? Are ya?
It looks fun to go to too. I'm assuming it's clean? When will Heath or you be in it again? We'd love to go!

  3. That is the neatest thing someone could ever do. I would never!!! for all the reasons you listed. well maybe I would if I was in an anonymous town with nobody I knew. conquer fear. be new confident person. then I'd do it.

  4. Thanks guys! The improv part is cake compared to the nervousness of waiting and performing in front of people. But anyway, there is a level 3 workshop which is basically just performing in shows (I think on Thursday nights) for a 6 week interim. I'm seriously considering it so if I do I'll let everybody know and you can come help me to continue to defeat these fears. Oh, and it's family friendly so no worries there.

  5. Way to go Emily! I am very proud of you. This totally reminds me of a dance (which had speaking parts!) that I had to perform at SCC and it was the first time I had ever spoken on stage. I was kind of forced into that one though, so way to go on deciding to do it yourself! I love miss you sis!

  7. Great job Emily! I was there in spirit and laughing at you the whole time (I mean with you, not at you, of course). Any videos? Or just pictures? Come on! Cough 'em up!
